Vancouver is losing one of its longtime Indonesian restaurants.

Pondok Indonesia Restaurant is closing its doors after 17 years in business.

Owner and chef Catherine Tanurahardja told the Georgia Straight by phone that she is retiring and moving to Bali, and has sold her restaurant.

She thanks all her customers for their support over the years. Tanurahardja first opened her restaurant in 1998 at Burrard and Pacific.

She later moved the restaurant to Commercial and 12th Avenue before its current location on the second floor at 950 West Broadway.

Fans of the restaurant still have time to catch some of their favourite dishes, ranging from gado-gado and bihun goreng to ikan gulai (Tanurahardja said the rice sambal was her most popular dish), before it closes on July 19.

For those who are unable to make it to the restaurant in time, you can also post your farewell messages on Pondok's Facebook page.

So very sad. My ex and I had some wonderful dinners there and as take out from each location. Haven't been there since we split and don't think I could handle the memories triggered by the tastes and smells.
