Stage 3 water restrictions remain in place after rain falls in Vancouver

There may have been 20 millimetres of rain in parts of Metro Vancouver this weekend, but that doesn't mean people can pull out their sprinklers to water their lawns anytime soon.

Metro Vancouver is maintaining Stage 3 water restrictions, which means it's also illegal to wash cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, and other recreational vehicles.

The chair of Metro Vancouver's utilities committee, Darrell Mussatto, told the Straight last week that the region's reservoirs are at about 70 percent of capacity.

Hand watering of established flowers, vegetable gardens, decorative planters, shrubs, and trees is still permitted.

But it remains illegal to refill private pools, spas, and garden ponds.

Rain will add some much needed-moisture to the soil.
