Canucks lose Alex Burrows for two to three weeks with foot injury

One game into the new National Hockey League season and the Vancouver Canucks have suffered their first significant injury.

Alex Burrows will miss the next few weeks with a foot injury suffered in the second period of the team's October 3 season opener in San Jose.

Burrows is believed to have been injured blocking a shot while killing off a 5-on-3 power play.

He stayed in the game, but was seen limping outside the Canucks locker room.

The team claimed that he had taken Friday off from practice, but this morning new head coach John Tortorella revealed Burrows would be sidelined for at least a couple of weeks.

It's a blow to the Canucks because Burrows contributes in all areas, but it's particularly troubling for an offense that will likely struggle to score goals this season.

Burrows led the club with 13 goals in the lockout-shortened season a year ago, and was being counted on to be among the team leaders in goal production this season.
