Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary in world's top five most livable cities for 2015

Vancouver retained its ranking as the world's third most livable city once again in the Economist Intelligence Unit's annual livability rankings. Three Canadian cities rounded out the top five.

Melbourne, Australia, took the top spot for the fifth consecutive year, a position Vancouver once had until it slipped to third place in 2011.

Vienna, Austria, came in second again, with Toronto following in fourth place.

Fifth place was a tie between Adelaide, Australia, and Calgary, which rose one spot from the previous year.

Among the results, 57 of the cities surveyed declined in livability over the past five years due to problems such as terrorist shootings in France and Tunisia, civil unrest in the U.S., and conflicts in Syria, Ukraine, and Libya.

Seven Chinese cities increased in ranking due to a reduction in riots and unrest.

The five least livable cities are:

      • Tripoli, Libya

      • Lagos, Nigeria

      • Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea

      • Dhaka, Bangladesh

      • Damascus, Syria

Not surprising how the most livable cities are all in traditionally White countries.
