Mercy for Animals Canada exposes battery cage cruelty (video)

    1 of 1 2 of 1

The footage is graphic: hens packed into battery cages, workers bashing the heads of chicks and leaving them to suffocate in garbage bags, and egg-laying hens stuck in cages with corpses.

Mercy for Animals Canada says its undercover investigation took place at Creekside Grove Farms and Kuku Farms in Alberta, which supply eggs to Burnbrae Farms, a provider of eggs to McDonald's Canada.

For its part, McDonald's asserts that, though it does get eggs from Burnbrae, none of its eggs come from Alberta.

MFA Canada is set to hold a press conference today (October 21) at 11 a.m. in Vancouver. The animal-rights group is calling on McDonald's to stop sourcing eggs from Canadian factory farms that use battery cages, and it's urging supporters to sign a petition.

I, as a consumer, am not willing to pay more for my eggs. These chickens are born and raised for the sole purpose of feeding humans with quality proteins at an affordable price.

The MFA society has no economic sense whatsoever.

If MFA wants to make their time worthy, go help the humans in need in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria where real cruelty and suffering needs to be helped.

      Terry,

You're a douche. Idiots like you are the reason these practices are still in place and more civilized societies have banned them. Spend the extra buck and respect where your food comes from.

      lets think about things

Terry is right, for a large population animals like these are brought up for the sole purpose of feeding the population at a reasonable price, that is both beneficial to the consumer and the producer. You have to understand at the end of the day its a business, and business wants production and growth.

As well after watching the video, you have to understand what absolute bias there is. Of course there are bird fatalities especially when breading at that number. As far as the chicks go, the whole point of the head bashing is so the spinal cord is severed allowing no sensory response to take place, so in actuality the birds would feel no pain at all as they can not receive any sense of stimuli.

you really have to look at the big picture and think of things logically rather than what is presented through a biased animal cruelty group.

      just food for thought.

      Terry,
It sounds like you need to educate yourself more on the "quality" of the protein you think you are getting! You are NOT getting good quality protein from animals that are raised on factory farms pumped full of antibiotics because they are filthy, sick, and abused!! If you can watch this video and feel nothing and not give a shit about what is happening to them and all the other animals on factory farms that suffer unimaginably everyday than you are one heartless and sick individual.

"You are NOT getting good quality protein"

Please define "Good Quality Protein". Please explain what scientific test is used to determine what "Good Quality Protein" might be.

Protein is Protein. Your body really does not care where it comes from.
