Canadian TV personality Steven Sabados has announced the end of the CBC lifestyle show Steven and Chris after the death of his cohost and husband Chris Hyndman.

The 49-year-old Hyndman was found dead in an alley near his home on August 3, which prompted an outpouring of sympathy from audiences and celebrities across Canada.

Sabados and Hyndman's popular afternoon show, which focused on home décor, health, beauty, food, and more, began in 2008. The pair were among the first openly gay TV show hosts.

In a post on the show's website on August 21, Sabados stated:

I wanted to write and send a sincere thank you to everyone who has reached out and offered love, support, and words of encouragement over these past few weeks.

As you can imagine, this has been an incredibly difficult time and I truly appreciate the compassion you've so generously offered.

Some of the best times in my life have been at the CBC—creating an incredible show with Christopher by my side and a fantastic team behind the scenes. That being said, it's impossible for me to even imagine continuing the show without him. The CBC understands and supports my decision 100 per cent and I hope you can as well.

To all of you who shared our fabulous journey over the last eight years, as Christopher would say, “Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

      Love,
      Steven

The pair had also starred together on several HGTV series, including Designer Guys, Design Rivals, and So Chic with Steven and Chris.

The cause of Hyndman's death has not been revealed. A private funeral service was held for Hyndman on August 12.

An online book of condolences was set up on the CBC website.

I loved watching the Designer Guys, it was one of my favourite Design shows. Chris was so funny & charismatic. He will be missed!

i'm a straight guy...watched the show once...didn't know much about them until chris' tragic death....what did stand out for me, however, was in learning how this couple had been together some 27 yrs. Gay or straight, who cares: having good quality, fulfilling love, the stuff most of all yearn for, is hard to find, let along keep....and that this couple had found it and nurtured it as long as they did makes me tip my hat in utmost respect....just shows you that regardless of gender, race, age or sexual orientation, good love, real love crosses all boundaries.
