      From the exhilirating guitar-rock of the Foo Fighters (above) to the engrossing theatre of the Fringe Festival, there's lots happening in Vancouver this weekend.

      FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11

      FOOS: the Georgia Straight presents Seattle guitar-rockers the Foo Fighters--featuring singer-guitarist Dave Grohl--at Rogers Arena, with guest Gary Clark Jr. (above).

      FOLK: Seattle-based indie-folk singer-songwriter Noah Gundersen plays the Biltmore Cabaret, touring in support of latest album Carry the Ghost.

      FUNDRAISER: cellist Peggy Lee (above), guitarist Tony Wilson, and the NOW ensemble play the Sweetbird benefit at PAL Theatre, with partial proceeds to the BC Cancer Society.

      FRINGE: The First Vancouver Theatrespace Society's annual theatre festival runs to September 20, featuring live, unjuried, uncensored theatre at various Vancouver venues. The Sama Kutra (above) is performed Friday at Performance Works.

      FORUM: the Society of Mexican Talent in British Columbia presents a forum at UBC Robson Square about education, entrepreneurship, and innovation in Canada and Mexico.

      FILM: The Vancouver Latin American Film Festival celebrates Latin American cinema at various Vancouver venues through Sunday. Screenings on Saturday include a repeat of the opening-night selection Güeros (above).

      SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12

      RED TRUCK: Logan Mize, Me and Mae, Rod Black, Cash Crawford (above), and Jaxon Hawks perform at Red Truck Brewery as part of the Red Truck Parking Lot Concert Series.

      ROGUE: the Rogue Folk Club presents legendary Scottish troubadour Dick Gaughan at St. James Hall.

      RETRO: seventies rock bands Toto and Yes ("Hold the Line", "Roundabout") perform at Hard Rock Casino Vancouver as part of a coheadlining tour.

      ROCK: English indie-rock band alt-j (above) plays Deer Lake Park, touring in support of latest album This Is all Yours, with guests San Fermin.

      RALLY: Mobilization Against War & Occupation presents an anti-war and anti-occupation rally in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery.

      SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13

      PARTY: celebrate Queen Elizabeth Park's 75th anniversary with Party in the Park, featuring music by Delhi 2 Dublin, the Zolas, Patrick Nazemi, Hot Panda (above), and Pop Junkies.

      P.O.D.: American Christian/alt-metal band Payable on Death plays Venue, touring in support of new album The Awakening, with guests Islander.

      PLAYLAND: annual attraction on the PNE grounds features midway games, a climbing wall, a haunted mansion, adventure golf, and rides like the wooden roller coaster and the Beast (above).

      PARKINSON: the Parkinson Superwalk at Stanley Park's Ceperly Park raises funds for the Parkinson Society British Columbia's support services and education & research programs.

      PILE-ON: the B.C. Lions, with support from their hardcore fans (above), take on the Ottawa Redblacks in Canadian Football League action at B.C. Place Stadium.

      POETRY: the Dead Poets Readings Series at Vancouver Public Library features poetry readings by readers who will also talk about their deceased poet's life and work.
