So the FareSaver ticket shortage isn't a TransLink ploy to get you using the Compass card

TransLink has been taking a lot of heat for a shortage of FareSaver tickets in stores around Metro Vancouver.

According to the regional transportation authority, the shortage of discounted tickets isn't linked to the much-delayed rollout of the controversial Compass electronic fare card.

"We've heard from our customers seeking FareSaver booklets that they're frustrated. We've been frustrated by this too," TransLink said in a statement sent to media outlets.

"In recent months, the company that supplies FareSavers has been unable to provide full shipments, which at first we were told was due to a supplier issue. We've since learned the company was going through bankruptcy proceedings."

FareSaver tickets are expected to be back in stock sometime next week.

Wondering when FareSaver tickets will be scrapped in favour of Compass, which will be available all over the place by November?

"The date when FareSavers will no longer be sold and accepted as valid fare media will be determined when all customers have had time to transition to Compass. We'll provide lots of notice, so you'll know ahead of time when those dates will be," the TransLink site states.

"The good news is that once FareSavers are no longer accepted, you can convert them to Stored Value, which offers the same discount as FareSavers."

I found a booklet at shoppers on 4th in Kitsilano last Sunday. It was the sixth place I checked.
