B.C. woman wearing Alan Kurdi shirt ejected from Stephen Harper campaign event

A protester wearing a shirt referring to dead three-year-old Syrian refugee Alan Kurdi was one of three B.C. women "kicked out" of a Conservative campaign event featuring party leader Stephen Harper.

In a news release from the ShitHarperDid folks, Lucy Burgess explains why she wore the shirt today (September 14) to the event in Kamloops:

For me climate change is the biggest issue, Harper has a long history of muzzling scientists ignoring emissions. a drought linked to linked to climate change is one of the biggest contributing factors to the civil war in Syria that Alan Kurdi tried to flee. That's why I wanted to raise this issue today, Alan should be here.

Also in the release, Burgess shares her version of what happened at the event:

First they wouldn't let my mom come, so they made me go in alone after checking my QR code confirmation email, and I'm on crutches. Then i got in, sat down and waited for half an hour. A conservative staffer asked the crowd to cheer for Harper and not heckle the media when they ask questions. After that another staffer asked me to come back to the door and verify my ticket. There they started asking us questions like where we live and if we were members of the conservative party. Then the door person who was questioning us walked away to get a security person who told us "we didn't have a high enough score on our registration" and we were asked to leave.

On September 3, Sean Devlin, one of the activists behind ShitHarperDid, was arrested after wearing a Kurdi shirt to a Harper event in Surrey.

this is another example of an uninformed protester who acts before thinking with logic. climate change has a big global impact, but this one is a stretch.

Don't give a fuck about why she was there, boys. Climate change, whatever!

We're just glad she was there. Any reason to protest PMS Harper is a good one.

Only a Harperoid would not agree.

the point she's making is a severe drought ruined a lot of Syrian farming and the people then moved to cities with limited employment opportunities. Assad gave water rights to his supporters over others and this led to the protests that kicked off his crackdown and the FSA split... go verify it and see if its not true. but that's the story.

climate change - decade long drought - farming severely impacted - battle for scarce water - demonstrations and social unrest - dictatorial crackdown - civil war.

50 million Bangladeshis are projected to be refugees fleeing their sinking islands in the coming soon department.
Their government's irrigation, levees and diking were created with a short term benefits in mind which created these larger problems coming to fruition now.
So be prepared for more accusations of how shitty the West is and how we have to let them in here at will.
