Photos: Check out the signs at the No Enbridge rally near Science World

A massive crowd turned up today at Science World to express opposition to Enbridge's proposed Northern Gateway pipeline.

Many who attended brought signs telling Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Premier Christy Clark what they think of the project.

If the federal Joint Review Panel gives it the green light, the pipeline would ship oil from the Alberta tar sands to Kitimat. From there, about 200 tankers per year would travel through Queen Charlotte Sound and along the Great Bear Rainforest to take the petroleum to foreign export markets.

Below, you can see what some of the demonstrators think of that idea. (Click photos to enlarge.)

Should have taken a poll as to how many of those people actually voted last May 14. My guess is below 40%.

      Gypsy:

How can you justify this assumption? These were politically aware and concerned parents, students, and working people, all with a vital sense of activism and a passion for social justice. You can bet your ass they voted.

      Jeremy:
Young people voted in this past election at a rate far lower than the 58% of voters that did cast a ballot.

The best chance for young people to stop the NGP was to vote May 14th, and by in large, they did not.

Effectively, the province's youth allowed the older generations make one of the most crucial decision of this generation, and it happened at the ballot box, May 14th.

Ah, nothing quite like all the people who protest petroleum products, in their synthetic fabrics. The dog in the first photo is probably vegan, poor thing...

Gypsy: Good idea, keep b*tching about something no one can do anything about... this is what they want!! These people showed up to do what they can do NOW. Were you there?

Gypsy is it correct to assume you weren't there? There were a lot of older people in that crowd as well. It was a cross section of all British Columbians. In fact there were also people that weren't old enough to vote.
