Facebook Paper app lands on February 3

With a name like Paper, Facebook's latest app is bound to strike fear in the hearts of some newspaper publishers.

However, Paper, which was unveiled today (January 30) and will be released for iPhone on February 3—at least in the U.S.—is not so much a news reader but a redesigned, simplified Facebook. It's pretty and stuff, and, you know, doesn't have all the crap.

      Facebook says:

Your Paper is made of stories and themed sections, so you can follow your favorite interests. The first section in Paper is your Facebook News Feed, where you’ll enjoy inspiring new designs for photos, videos, and longer written posts. You can customize Paper with a choice of more than a dozen other sections about various themes and topics—from photography and sports to food, science and design. Each section includes a rich mix of content from emerging voices and well-known publications.

This app doesn't appear destined to go the way of Poke, which nobody used. Check out the video:

Update (January 31): According to a Facebook representative, the company isn't ready to announce the Canadian release date for Paper.

Paper looks really great, but I'll keep using Hinto.co because I can manually add the news sites I read daily and it's very visual.
