Photos: Politicians swarm Chinese New Year Parade in Vancouver

    1 of 29 2 of 29

If you attended the 2014 Chinese New Year Parade in Vancouver, chances are good you received a red envelope or two (without any lucky money though) from a politician you'd never heard of.

The annual parade attracts a herd of politicians hoping to keep their names and faces in the minds of voters, especially in a year featuring civic elections and a B.C. NDP leadership race.

Here's my photos of some of the politicians (and a few others) who hit the streets of Chinatown today (February 2), ostensibly to celebrate the Year of the Horse.

If you like a challenge, see how many pictured politicians you can name before looking at the photo cutlines.

Sure, Tom Mulcair, Jason Kenney, James Moore, Christy Clark, Adrian Dix, and Gregor Robertson are easy to identify, but you might have trouble with a few park commissioners and suburban MLAs.

What a cynical article on what was a great parade. Sure there were some politicians, but there have been politicians at events since politicans were invented! We expect them to be there. They were almost invisible anyways.

Everybody around me at the parade seemed to be having a good time and the politicians had no impact.

Honestly, the reason I go to these parades is to count the politicians. That's what makes it fun.

Either didn't get the memo to dress up in garb and pander to the vote or decided not to insult the chinese community and dressed as a white guy.

      Discus....

Considering there was a whole nest of these critters let loose, security was surprisingly low key and non-interfering.

I honestly cannot find words to describe how much I hate these people..all these sellout so called "politicians" need to be publically hanged for treason against the Canadian people. If you think otherwise then their Liberal propaganda worked, and now you don't believe in capital punishment. It is only the right thing to do. In any country in the world they would be at least jailed and exposed. Most of you sleepy headed canucks have NO IDEA whats happening here when it is so obvious. Have a nice day and enjoy "Sunny Vancouver: The best place in the world!" fcking insane.

      Wow.

These people are sellouts to the canadian people and job economy, they are just present to win rich criminal chinese votes and gain more lobbyists; which means more money for them. This is one of the sickest things i've ever seen. Is everyone psycho but me?

If these politicians want to celebrate Chinese New Year, they could at least put money inside the lucky envelopes. Its against tradition to give an empty envelope and is bad karma.

Understandable. Lower mainland is rapidly becoming a Chinese majority of residents.

Constable Chip is probably the only one in the photos with brains, I trust him more than these slimeball politicians.

Is it me or is James Moore wearing a trenchcoat? Kind of creepy if you ask me.
