B.C. bars allowed to open early for Olympic gold medal men's hockey game
The Olympic gold medal game for men's hockey takes place at 4 a.m. on Sunday (February 23).
Normally, bars and pubs are permitted to open at 6 a.m., but the B.C. government is making an exception for this event, regardless of whether the match includes Team Canada.
These liquor-licensed establishments are being asked to inform the Liquor Control and Licensing Branch if they want to extend their hours.
However, they still won't be able to serve alcohol until 9 a.m. as usual.
So, Sochi Olympics watchers will just have to go a few hours without their light beer and wine spritzers.

"go a few hours without their light beer and wine spritzers."
Have you ever had a local beer?

The 'alcohol can only be served at 9am' rule should not be enforced on Sunday, Feb 23rd. I want my Granville Island Winter Ale's during the hockey game, not after!

Well if we're not in the Gold medal game, I guarantee those bars and pubs will by EMPTY. How about opening early Friday morning when the really exciting game will be happening between Canada and the US?

True hockey fans will still get up early (or just stay up all night} to watch the Gold medal game either at home or at the bars regardless of which teams are playing in the Final. The serving alcohol @ 9am rule should be relaxed on Sunday morning for the early morning drinkers.
I'm confident Canada will beat the US tomorrow so Canada will be in the Gold medal game on Sunday morning! Remember, this is team Canada, not the Vancouver Canucks!

the pint on abbott street has been open early for women's and men's games, i imagine they will be open for this but what's the point in going to a bar if you can't drink. gtfo nanny state.
