Olivia Chow ad hammers Rob Ford for not returning a constituent's calls

    1 of 2 2 of 2

Toronto mayor Rob Ford often brags about how he takes calls from voters and fixes their problems.

But a new ad by one of his mayoral-race opponents, Olivia Chow, challenges that assertion.

A woman who is only identified as "Laura" claims that she phoned Ford 20 times about transit issues and never once received a call back.

Ford isn't the first politician to claim that he addresses citizens' problems after they've ignored by the bureaucracy.

In this regard, he has something in common with Russian president Vladimir Putin.

A 2013 book published by the Brookings Institution, Mr. Putin: Operative in the Kremlin, revealed that the Russian leader also likes to portray himself as a politician who rushed in to address citizens' concerns.

Ford has something else in common with Putin: both seem to have a problem with according greater dignity to LGBT people.

Ford objected to flying the Pride flag at Toronto City Hall and has refused to march in the Pride parade.

Putin has gone much further in this regard, linking gays to pedophilia.

However, there's no indication that the Russian president has ever smoked crack and lied about it—unlike Mayor Ford.

To everybody who wants forget about Bill Blair and his Police and Firefighter fraternity, I ask you this....where is the investigation into Bill Blairs activities surrounding the G20 summit...remember? When his police brothers beat the sh** out of a bunch of university kids and violated several Charter Rights to the point of criminal behaviour...The Police chief in the biggest city in Canada trampling on the rights of Canadian Citizens is forgotten but a drunk Mayor doing drugs is the embarrassment of Canada?
When a crime like what happened at the G20 summit is forgiven but a mayor on drugs is not, it makes you wonder who's pulling the puppet strings.
Mr. Rob Ford has my vote as the only politician who has the balls to admit his mistake and move forward, its not like he beat, imprisoned and violated the rights of 1100 Canadians or something.

There once was a guy who had a ball
Telling all he returned every phone call
But it's clear that he lies
His lies now thick as flies
On October 27 he will fall

Rob's identical twin brother Mike is the one who actually returns the calls. Mike is the brother who Rob said was in the crack video. According to Rob, Mike has taken a different and much darker road path than Rob and he was really offended when people suggested he was lying about Mike...bunch of lefties. Mike's on another bender so he simply hasn't been sober enough to return any calls.

Absolutely. These bread-and-circuses style stories get the various ideologically aligned groups into a froth, but they never address systemic issues that reflect total corruption. The G20 basically turned Toronto into a de facto war zone where the law was suspended.

      "who's pulling the puppet strings"

I favor the "asleep at the switch" view. The idea that there is any individual or group of individuals at the top who have any idea what's going on is false. They know that they like expensive wine/fast cars/prostitutes/_____ (insert vice here) and they know that if they maintain the status quo, they get more of that shit. Never attribute to malice what can be attributed to stupidity or venality.

C'mon, Jimmy kimmel criticized Ford for being too accessible from his personal experience.

As someone who has knocked on doors alongside Olivia Chow, I find Ford a sympathetic figure.

But as a self described working stiff, I now lean Ford over Chow. And I don't think people in the media circles understand his appeal.

Many years ago I talked to a top budget bureaucrat at City, and he told me that Rob Ford and Howard Moscoe were the councillors to get results for their constituents.

The Ford crack head cult are mostly not even Canadian. It's hilarious to watch this clueless foreign cult run around down thumbing youtube videos. Sorry foreign anti-Canadian cult, you're irrelevant :)
