      CONCERTS

      The Commodore Ballroom hosts the Boots & Babes Ball, a Valentine's Day evening of live entertainment and music by Canadian dance band Side One.

      Show of Hearts features music by 54-40, Charlie, Aaron Pritchett, Five Alarm Funk, Sophie Simmons, Vancouver TheatreSports League, and Sarah McLachlan School of Music. Held at the Centre in Vancouver for Performing Arts.

      At the Pacific Coliseum, the fourth annual Get Together features music by trance artist Armin Van Buuren, along with Sander Van Doorn, Will Sparks, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, and Union DJ's.

      The Victoria B.C. Ska Society presents American R&B multi-instrumentalist Booker T. Jones touring in support of latest release Sound the Alarm. Held at the Vogue Theatre.

      Vancouver polka-punk band the Dreanoughts performs with the Skimmity Hitchers, ATD, the Generators, Uptown Riot, and Obscene Being at the Rickshaw Theatre.

      The Rogue Folk Club presents Cape Breton traditional-folk band Còig at the St. James Hall.

      American jazz saxophonist Branford Marsalis performs with his quartet at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts.

      Local saloon-funk band EHM Sky Patrol plays a release party for debut album Songs for Adults, with guests the Great Speckled Fritillary and Anni M Fables, at the Biltmore Cabaret.

      Six international guitarists fuse over 40 years of combined performing experience at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts.

      BURNIN' DESIRE Valentine Party Extravaganza features music by International Blindfold, Talk Nerdy to Me, the Food, and the Surfrajets. Held at the Railway Club.

      The Richmond Animal Protection Society hosts a pub night to raise funds for animal protection. Held at the Richmond Curling Club.

      Zend Conscious Lounge hosts a fundraiser for Hearts to Noses Sanctuary, which helps to preserve the lives of injured, abused, abandoned, neglected, and unwanted pigs.

      Highlights of Allure + Prestige include Latin-fusion activities and a live art auction. Held at the Terminal City Club.

      Juno Award-winning musician Alpha Yaya Diallo, Cecile Doo-Kingue, R&B Allstars, and DJ Cuz-o perform at a dance benefiting orphaned children in Uganda. Held at the Imperial.

      The Vancouver Golf & Travel Show boasts over 125 exhibitors, travel destinations, manufacturer’s representatives, and demonstrators. Held at the PNE Forum.

      Red Dog Deli offers information on pet-health issues like weight control, allergies, digestive and skin issues, dental health, and diabetes. Held at True Carnivores.

      The Digital Media Youth Expo offers a variety of presentations, demonstrations, post-secondary school booths, and experts. Held at DMA at Argyle Secondary School.

      Cabaret Torlage presents four sets of sexy song and dance at the Penthouse.

      The Rio Theatre hosts an evening of burlesque duos by April O'Peel and Vixen Von Flex, Diva Fantango and Ariel Helvetica, Nicky Ninedoors and Miss Kiss, and Camaro Luvroc and Claire Voyeur.

      Damask Burlesk presents an evening of burlesque by Cherry on Top, Audrey Hipturn, Hella Tang, Ruby Slickeur, Mr. Yoyothrower, Minnie Peron, Luna Essence, and Diamond Minx. Held at the Columbia Theatre.

       

      FOOD AND DRINK

      Hycroft Manor hosts a Valentine's Day evening that includes a three-course gourmet meal and music by saxophonist Saul Berson.

       

      FORUMS

      Shawna Mauchline, Mandy Mauchline, and David Quast discuss the representation of women's power as depicted by witches in film. Held at Skinny Fat Jack's.

       

      KIDS' STUFF

      Celebrate Chinese New Year with activities like meditation, drumming lessons, calligraphy, performances of Chinese instruments and traditional songs, a vegetarian lunch, and a tea ceremony. Held at Dharma Drum Mountain Vancouver Center.

      Celebrate the Year of the Monkey with a lion dance and festive crafts at Wesbrook Village.

      Gordon Gerrard conducts pianist Avan Yu, violinist Lucy Wang, and the VSO in a concert celebrating the Year of the Monkey. Held at the Orpheum Theatre.

      British-French musician and viola d'amore player Garth Knox performs pieces by Farshid Samadari, Donald Stewart, Olga Neuwirth, Georg Friedrich Haas, and John Zorn. Held at the Orpheum Annex.

       

      THEATRE

      The Arts Club on Tour production of 4000 Miles sees a 91-year-old New Yorker and her grandson help each other navigate their changing worlds. Held at the ACT Arts Centre.

      Align Entertainment Inc. presents an all-ages Broadway-style musical based on the 1968 film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Held at the Michael J. Fox Theatre.

      It's your last chance to catch Alley Theatre's production of Little One at the Firehall Arts Centre.

       

      MOVIES

      The Rio Theatre screens Haida Gwaii, director Charles Wilkinson's documentary about a group of remarkable characters living on Haida Gwaii.
