Gu Xiong: A Journey Exposed opens at the Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art (2121 Lonsdale Avenue, North Vancouver) on Friday (May 9).The summer exhibit, curated by Astrid Heyerdahl, examines the effects of globalization on cultural, political, and agricultural relations through the work of artist Gu Xiong.

“The beauty of Mr. Gu Xiong, other than his sincere and sensitive feelings as an artist, is that he serves as contemporary public intellectual with a sense of compassion and responsibility.” Heyerdahl stated in a news release. “Gu Xiong: A Journey Exposed takes viewers on a global journey of interconnected waterways, food production, and environmental incidents while also relaying Xiong’s personal and artist journey that seeks to inspire, educate, and form connections across continents.”

The dance will be re-interpreted within the context of the exhibition and feature dancer Wen Wei, video artist Sammy Chien, and musician Qiu Xia He. Performances will take place at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
