Homeless in Vancouver: More alleged Chinese lions spotted in Fairview

I finally noticed another Fairview apartment building decorated with what may be ceramic Chinese-style lions flanking a British Union Jack flag.

This one is on Hemlock Street between 13th and 14th Avenue, and by the looks of the flag, it’s been this way for quite a while—I’m just not very observant.

The other similar building I know of is four blocks east on Oak Street.

Either both buildings share the same owners or I’ve discovered a little-known Fairview architectural style.

On closer examination these animal figures look less like Chinese-style lions and more like woodchucks beavers.

The Oak Street building, in addition to its two ceramic lions, also has a third beaverlike figure off to one side.
