A B.C.-born and -raised performer of Swiss descent will be representing Switzerland at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest. Christina Maria Rieder—known by the stage name Rykka—beat out five other finalists for the honour. The 2013 Peak Performance Project winner will sing "The Last of Our Kind" in the Eurovision finals, to be held this May in Stockholm, Sweden.

As an interesting side note, this is not the first time a Canadian performer has represented Switzerland at Eurovision. Céline Dion sang the winning song, "Ne partez pas sans moi", in 1988. That victory helped launch Dion's international career. And she's done okay for herself since then.
