Quadrophenia: Live in London continues the legacy of the world's greatest rock album

I've long posited that the Who's Quadrophenia is the greatest rock album of all time.

The 1973 double-disc captured the British rock quartet at its creative peak, firing on all cylinders, and—thanks to Pete Townsend's songwriting skills—told a thoroughly engrossing tale of a young man's struggle for identity amid the Mods vs. Rockers turmoil of 1960s England.

Fans of the world's greatest rock album got a special treat back in 2011 when it was released as a deluxe-edition boxed set, complete with previously unheard demos, a hardcover book, and various other goodies.

The treats for Quadrophenia freaks continue this Tuesday (June 10) with the release of Quadrophenia: Live in London, which documents the Who's live performance of the entire Quadrophenia album at London's Wembley Arena last year.

As well as on standard DVD, Blu-ray, and video download, Quadrophenia: Live in London will be available as a primo five-disc collector's edition that comes packaged in a round metal box with a Mod bullseye logo painted on a Vespa SG scooter headlight! The package includes a 32-page circular book and—for the serious audiophiles out there—"all 17 tracks from Quadrophenia in high-resolution 96kHz 24-bit PCM stereo, DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 surround sound."

      Sounds impressive.

Of course, the only actual drawback about a Who Quadrophenia concert recorded last year is that it doesn't include the fabled rhythm-section of drummer Keth Moon and bassist John Entwistle, who died drug-related deaths in 1978 and 2002, respectively.

Their playing on the original album was the cat's ass:

Though, I love Quadrophenia, I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one, Newt. My vote is either Exile on Main St, Rumors or Abbey Road.

Also, isn't Who's Next generally considered the better Who album?

Who's next and for that matter Tommy are more famous and their both awesome but, for my $ Quadrophenia is the best Who album! As for best album ever, wow I'm thinking Highway 61, Revolver, London Calling, Exile and a few others might have something to say about it? On second thought Quadrophenia hands down!
