Off-duty New York State police officer John Vescio had the scare of his life when an elderly driver plowed his car into a gas station pump as he was filling his tank.

It caused an explosion, causing Vescio to do what any normal person would do: he fled the scene.

But the cop kept his wits about him, returning to the scene and rescuing the man who had blacked out shortly before the accident.
