Five big free events this summer in Vancouver

      As far as free events go, they don’t get much bigger than the West 4th Avenue Khatsahlano Street Party (yes, it’s a mouthful) this Saturday (July 12).

      But that’s not the only free-admission gathering worth checking out this summer in Vancouver.

      Here’s five other outdoor events that you can attend without paying a cent.


      1. Celebration of Light

      When: July 26 and 30, and August 2.

      Where: English Bay.

      Highlights: Fireworks displays from teams representing the U.S., France, and Japan.



      2. Powell Street Festival

      Ed Lau

      When: August 1 to 3.

      Where: Oppenheimer Park.

      Highlights: Japanese Canadian art, historical walking tours, and food.



      3. Vancouver Dyke March and Festival


      When: August 2.

      Where: Grandview Park.

      Highlights: March starting at McSpadden Park.



      4. Veg Fest Vancouver

      When: July 26.

      Where: Granville Street, between Dunsmuir Street and Smithe Street.

      Highlights: Vegan food vendors and animal rights organizations.



      5. Waterfront Cinema

      When: July 17, 24, and 31, and August 7, 14, 21, and 28.

      Where: Canada Place.

      Highlights: Movies such Ghostbusters, The Notebook, and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
