TransLink not happy about Main Street Massacre game depicting SkyTrain killing spree

TransLink has sent media outlets an email asking us to stop "promoting a video that appears to advocate violent behaviour against SkyTrain employees and passengers".

The regional transportation authority distributed this message after the release of an online game (not a video) called Main Street Massacre, which lets players go on a killing spree in a SkyTrain station in Vancouver.

“Playing clips from this video over and over again, and informing the public of where they can view the video, is irresponsible and does not serve the public interest,” said Ian Jarvis, CEO of TransLink, in a statement.

Fiona Famulak, president of the Vancouver Regional Construction Association, also made a statement in the TransLink email.

“The portrayal of construction workers in this video clip as violent individuals is highly inappropriate and does not reflect at all the professionalism of the construction industry,” said Famulak.

Main Street Massacre was developed by Wildman Industries. In the game, your character is a construction worker pissed off after a "horrible, crappy day at work" and now dealing with the "fucked up" SkyTrain. Watched by TransLink staff via surveillance cameras, your mission is to kill every last person in Main Street-Science World Station.

Depending on your point of view, the game may be disturbing, pointless, or fun satire.

Instead of commuters getting mowed down...it should have been the Translink board members...Get this pricks out of their cars and onto the crap Skytrain at Rush Hour!

Hahaha. It's just a game. Typical vancouver, taking anything that doesn't adhere to the status quo way, way too seriously.

Someone made a game that probably took them 10 minutes to code to "prove a point" and it's tastelessly offensive.

This is no different from this:
      http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/118310-Flash-Game-Makes-Player...

Which is also made by a Canadian who wanted to prove a point, and incite a hate campaign against a target.

There are people who regularly post on news sites just to lay hate on the Skytrain. This is not that different and a lot less mature.

I missed possible death on Skytrain near main street. Can't give the details because not politically correct. Getting killed on Skytrain is a reality, period. Ha, never thought it would happen to me minding my own business...not stinky, not on a phone, starring at anyone...just day dreamin...That's how much of a target we all are.
