If you picked up a copy of the latest issue of the Georgia Straight, you might have read a profile of Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau.

The piece was written by Mark Leiren-Young, a long-time Straight contributor. A journalist, screenwriter, playwright, and comedian, Leiren-Young has just been named the City of Richmond’s third annual writer-in-residence.

His residency will last two months and launch with an event on September 26 at 7 p.m. at the Richmond Cultural Centre (7700 Minoru Gate). The launch, which will include readings and refreshments, is free, but space is limited. Prospective attendees can register via the city website, quoting course #653858.

Leiren-Young plans to offer free programs, including Telling Your Story–Older Adults, Telling Your Story–ESL, Writing as a Career–Youth, Words Online–Adults, Words Online-Youth, and Manuscript Consultations, during his residency. Registration for these programs opens on September 27.
