While Pride festivities have been taking place around the world, and even Nanaimo held its first Pride parade on June 12, Vancouver's Pride season gets its official start this Saturday (June 25) in East Vancouver.

The Vancouver Pride Society's East Side Pride kicks off the city's Pride season at Grandview Park (at Charles Street and Commercial Drive).

Starting at noon, the event will showcase musical performances by local bands and drag performers, as well as local artisans and community groups.

The performer line-up includes DJ Krista, indie-strange duo Phono Pony, Sara Garber, Cat Mac and the Kittens, Old.Soul.Rebel, Blake Havard, Jill Cooper, Victoria folk-rock group RamblerSpeak, The Carnival Band, Synder Starr, and performance artist Sasja Smolders.

For more information, you can check out their Facebook event page.

That's not all the local Pride festivities to take in this weekend. Don't forget there's also Surrey Pride's first Pride march as well on Sunday (June 26).
