Poor Jon Bon Jovi gets embarassed into singing "Livin' on a Prayer" at a wedding

Thirty years ago last week I did my first interview with Jon Bon Jovi. It was no big whoop at the time--that was still a month before Bon Jovi would release Slippery When Wet and quickly become one of the biggest rock bands of the late '80s/early '90s.

He seemed like a pretty decent guy when I talked to him, so I felt kinda bad when I saw this video of him getting put on the spot at a wedding reception in Miami recently.

You can tell that he just wants to be left alone at his table with his wife or whoever it is and enjoy the wedding band's version of "Livin' On a Prayer". But before long there's a camera right in his face, and the singer comes over to egg him on. At around the one-minute mark it looks like he goes, "Aw fuck it, just gimme the goddamn mic."

I wouldn't say it's JBJ's finest vocal performance ever, but at least he gave the people what they wanted.

I'm sure just as the song ended he was livin' on a prayer himself, one that went: "Please god, don't let them do 'You Give Love a Bad Name' next."

Oh look, here's the whole cringeworthy episode from another angle!

I thought the trumpet player did an okay version of Richie Sambora's guitar solo, myself.
