While everyone was busy celebrating Pride in the West End, an aboriginal two-spirit Davie Street coffee shop decided to call it quits after 13 years of operation.

Darryl's Coffee and Native Art Shop at 945 Davie Street (at Burrard) was run by two-spirit local Darryl Alexcee, who is of Nisga'a and Tsimshian descent, and his partner.

Alexcee served up coffee, baked goods, bannock, and more alongside a selection of aboriginal art.

Standing at the entrance of the shop was a wooden statue of a white man called "Cigar Store General Custer"—a sly twist on the cigar store Indian statues that U.S. tobacconists used to place outside their stores.

Alas, the store closed its doors forever on July 15.
