VFM Spotlight: The Pie Hole bakes sweet and savoury pies so you don’t have to

In this series, the Georgia Straight visits different vendors at the Vancouver Farmers Markets to learn about their business, products, and why they love being at the weekly markets.

Name of vendors? The Pie Hole owned by Jenell Parsons.

What do you sell? At the markets we sell sweet handmade fruit pies using locally sourced B.C. fruits and all-butter crusts. We sell fruit, cream and savory meat pies online and with our retail partners!

How did you get into your business? A sincere passion for baking and a sister who was traveling came up with the idea for a pie specific shop featuring both sweet & savory pies.

What’s your specialty? For sweet pies it would have to be our Fat Elvis (dark chocolate ganache, banana cream and whipped peanut butter), and for savory it’s our Bacon Cheeseburger pie. We offer over 50 rotating flavors throughout the year.

Favourite item you sell? I love our brand new Vegan Chocolate Hazelnut Pie. I feel like I can eat as much as I like without feeling guilty.

Favourite thing about the city’s farmers markets? I love the sense of community with the markets. Not only are you supporting small locally owned businesses, but you are also meeting the people behind the products—from the farmers to the artisan producers.
