Photos: Hiking at Smoke Bluffs and Crumpit Woods in Squamish

When one thinks of hiking in Squamish, the Stawamus Chief and Alice Lake may come quickly to mind. Less well known, to Vancouver hikers anyways, is Crumpit Woods.

Last week, I spent five hours there stringing together a 10-kilometre loop out the labyrinth of, er, colourfully named mountain bike trails in the forest. We encountered some runners and dirt bikers on the trails.

Our route began at Smoke Bluffs Park, where we visited the Smoke Bluffs summit. From there, we followed an assortment of trails including Doggie Style, Pipe Trail, Spencer's Big Gay Ride, S+M, S+M Connector, My Trail, and Summer's Eve deep into the woods and back to the trailhead at the end of Plateau Drive.

It's an interesting area, for sure. My GPS device and Squamish Off-Road Cycling Association trail map proved essential for navigation.
