Southern-rock gods Lynyrd Skynyrd headed to Hard Rock Casino Van

Southern-rock heroes Lynyrd Skynyrd have just announced a show at the Hard Rock Casino Vancouver.

And it's on a Friday, which is pretty close to a "Saturday Night Special."

As anyone who's followed the band from its early-'70s beginnings knows, Skynyrd's story is composed of the highest highs and lowest lows.

The lowest was the bizarre 1977 plane crash that killed original singer Ronnie Van Zant and fiercely talented guitarist Steve Gaines, as well as Gaines' backup-singer sister Cassie and the group's road manager, Dean Kilpatrick.

Check out good ol' Steve-O goin' to town with some slide on "T For Texas" back in '77.

Over the years, almost all of the original members have passed away, with only guitarists Gary Rossington and Rickey Medlocke (who played drums on their earliest recordings) left alive.

Since 1987 the band has been fronted by Van Zant's younger brother Johnny, who looks and sounds quite a lot like his legendary bro.

The band's current set list includes such '70s faves as "That Smell", "Workin' for MCA", and their biggest hit, "Sweet Home Alabama".

Or maybe "Free Bird" is their biggest hit.

Either way, you'll be hearing them both. Bring your Bic lighter for backup.

The last time I saw them—in Vancouver back in '97they were still smokin'.

Tickets go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. and you can find them here.

...'bizarre 1977 plane crash'....yup, running out of fuel is about as bizarre as it gets. Budget air lines are not always a good way to save money.
