Fans of Belgian waffles who have been unable to get a seat at the tiny, popular Nero Belgian Waffle Bar spot on busy nights at 1703 Robson Street in the West End will be relieved to know that a larger second location of the shop has opened up.

Taking over the former location of Commune Café at 1002 Seymour Street, the new Nero opened on the Thanksgiving weekend. The décor features minimalist clean lines and includes some intriguingly designed booth alcoves with stylish flair.

In an interview in March, owner Jan Dierckx told us that the Robson Street location can seat about 16 people inside (with 10 to 12 outside) while the new Seymour location can seat up to about 70 people (including a heated patio).

For the moment, hours currently run from noon to midnight, which also reflects a shift towards focusing on late-night service.

The menu offers numerous savoury and sweet Nero classic waffles, along with housemade ice cream and toppings. There's also a selection of Belgian and local beers, B.C. wines, and an espresso bar.
