A former staffer with the Ministry of Children and Family Development is facing charges of possession of child pornography.

On December 16, 2014, RCMP in Prince George arrested Edward Berry, 51, at his home on charges of possession and accessing child pornography. Berry is a former manager with the Ministry.

Today, (January 20), Minister of Children Stephanie Cadieux told reporters the charges are "deeply concerning", saying their mission is to "protect the lives of children."

The Surrey-Cloverdale MLA wouldn't say much more, stating the matter is now before the courts.

Berry is currently out of jail on several conditions, including no contact with anyone under the age of 16 and not to possess any device that allows internet access.

Berry will appear in Prince George provincial court on January 28.
