You've Got Craft: Amara Blue Designs stamps stories onto jewellery

    1 of 2 2 of 2

In anticipation of Got Craft?’s holiday edition, taking place from December 10 to 11 at the Pipe Shop Building (115 Victory Ship Way, North Vancouver), we’re getting to know some of the fair’s 80-plus independent designers and makers.

Today, we meet Kassandra Taylor, owner and creator at Amara Blue Designs.

      Who are you

My name is Kassandra and I am the creator of Amara Blue Designs.

I am a Vancouverite, avid yoga practiser, and chronic traveller. I use the inspiration gathered from travelling and yoga to fuel my work in jewellery design.

      What’s your shtick

I focus on “hand-stamping”, which is the process of stamping individual letters into metal. This means that I can stamp any word, name, date, or mantra that means something special.

I take pride in making pieces that aren’t just products, but physical representations of what means the most.

When Amara Blue makes an appearance at local markets, I custom-stamp right onsite and absolutely love all of the amazing, adorable stories of why people choose what they want to stamp.

Sharing those stories offers a whole different level of fulfillment from my work and it makes a piece completely timeless like the memories and meanings that they represent.

      My ideal stocking stuffer

Well, I mean, all of my pieces fit into a stocking! Stockings were my favourite part of Christmas during my childhood as my family would hide the most special items in there.

I love the idea of one of my custom necklaces being pulled out of a stocking this Christmas! My pinecone necklaces are incredibly popular gifts for the holidays. Each one is paired with gemstones that I collect from my travels.

      This year, I’m gifting…

This year, all of my cards are going to come from Art + Soul Creative Co. Her cards are super adorable and cheeky, and they’re way better than generic Christmas cards.

I will definitely be picking up some T-shirts from Locomotive Clothing & Supply—they are the perfect gift for those men in your life that are really tough to shop for!

Tickets to Got Craft? are $3 in advance online or $5 at the door. For more information about the event, or to purchase tickets, click here.
