Eastside Culture Crawl Artist Spotlight: Sibéal Foyle

The Straight gets to know some of the artists participating in this year’s upcoming Eastside Culture Crawl.

Who are you? Sibéal Foyle, artist and educator living in Vancouver, Canada.

I come from a rich tradition of oral history and storytelling which informs my life as an artist and an educator. My love of painting and drawing provides me with endless possibilities for interpretation, composition and colour.

This year I have taken a break from painting large canvasses and found myself contemplating the everyday miracles of the natural world through drawing. Collecting abandoned nests and seed pods has long been a habit of mine and perhaps in response to a sense of chaos in the world at large, I have found great joy in observing and drawing the small, the tiny and the intricacies of insects, birds and plants.

Where is your studio? 716 East Hastings Street.

How many years have you participated in the East Side Culture Crawl? 10 years.

What’s your medium? Conte drawings on paper.

What are some new pieces we can find at your studio during this year’s Crawl? Nature Studies.
