The Doors announce 50th anniversary deluxe edition of wicked debut album

I was only nine when the first Doors album came out in January of 1967, so I didn't run out and buy it. But I sure remember them playing the hell out of "Light My Fire" on the radio when it was released as a single four months later.

Damn I loved that tune.

And in later years I grew to enjoy a lot of other tracks from The Doors, including the opener "Break on Through (To the Other Side)" and the cover of Willie Dixon's "Back Door Man".

But the one that's really grown on me is the two-minute ditty "Take It As It Comes". It's not as stellar as their best tune, "L.A. Woman", but still pretty cool I reckon.

Anybody else wanting to relive the magic of that first Doors disc should know that today the band--or surviving members Robby Kreiger and John Densmore anyway--have announced that a 50th anniversary deluxe edition of the album will be released by Rhino Records on March 31. Packaged in a 12 x 12 hardcover book, The Doors: 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition includes a remastered version of the album’s original stereo mix, available on CD for the first time in a decade and remastered for the first time in nearly 30 years. The album’s original mono mix was also remastered for this set and is making its CD debut here. An LP-version of the mono mix is also included. The third disc features live performance from The Matrix in San Francisco recorded just weeks after The Doors was released. Music journalist David Fricke provides detailed liner notes for the set, which includes a selection of rare and previously unseen photographs.
