Do your Valentine's Day plans include holing up at home alone with a box of chocolates as your soul mate for the evening?
Well, here's one way to snag a much better date. In fact, a once-in-a-lifetime date. And it's all for a great cause to boot.
Fetching British actor Idris Elba is offering himself up in a charity fundraiser.
Entrants will have the opportunity to be flown and put up in a four-star hotel to have Elba be wined and dined by candlelight at one of his favourite restaurants. (The city or location has not been disclosed.)
In a promotional video, a suave Elba gets rather racy, stating "You can pound my yams" (calm down, it's a reference to an African dish) and that for dessert, the winner can have "whatever you want". (Cue the cold showers for the next few weeks.)
Entries with donations of $10 or more will not only receive additional chances to win, but gifts.
Bonus gifts include an Idris Elba t-shirt, a signed Luther DVD, a signed headshot, or a pair of Dark Tower premiere tickets (and a photo with Elba).
While you're busy trying to maintain your composure over the next few weeks, you can also be feel good that your donations will benefit W.E. Can Lead, an organization dedicated to helping young girls receive education, leadership development, and mentoring to empower them to become the next generation of leaders across the African continent.
As luck would have it, Elba, who starred on the TV series The Wire and the films Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Thor, Prometheus, and Star Trek Beyond, has been shooting the romantic drama The Mountain Between Us with Kate Winslet here in B.C.
While the dates are presumably aimed at women, there isn't anything that states that men aren't allowed to enter, whether straight or queer. (Although that could potentially change the type of yam pounding....)
So have at it, everyone, and if you win, let us know what your yam recipe is.
In the meantime, here's the video from Elba to whet your appetite.
