Got Craft: Later Supply Co. aims to make fanny packs cool again

    1 of 2 2 of 2

In anticipation of Got Craft?’s 10th-anniversary spring edition, taking place on May 6 and 7 at the Maritime Labour Centre (1880 Triumph Street), we’re getting to know some of the fair’s 75-plus independent designers and makers.

Today, we meet Heather Mackenzie, owner of Later Supply Co.

      Who are you?

My name is Heather Mackenzie. I am the owner of Later Supply Co. I conceptualize, design, and am currently making all the bags and accessories for my company.

      What do you do?

I make bags. Backpacks, fanny packs, crossbodies, all sorts really. I like to work with waxed canvas and leather primarily and I like to mix them in almost all my products. I work with denim as well and have been mixing denim and waxed canvas for a leather-free option and am liking the results.

I think my products are unique because of the mixed-media approach. I have a minimalist design aesthetic and mostly believe we are carrying too much stuff with us at most times, so I like to design products that simplify the way people go about their day.

If you aren’t going out for the entire day and only need your phone, keys, and a wallet, why not use a fanny pack rather than bring an entire purse or a backpack?

Later Supply Co. owner Heather Mackenzie loves the ease and versatility of fanny packs.

What's your favourite item you stock?

Currently, my favourite product in my line is the zip fanny pack. The fanny pack just has an awesome history and I love how hesitant people are to embrace it because their dad had an ugly one in the '80s or they had an ugly one in the 80s.

My favourite thing is when people come into my booth and change their perception of fanny packs because they just like my design. I basically want to see everyone leave my booth with one because they are such a useful, easy way to carry the necessities. Having less items to keep track of while out and about is always awesome.

What products will you offer at Got Craft?

I will have all of my products at Got Craft: fanny packs, two different styles of backpacks, three different styles of crossbody bags, and other accessories like key chains and wallets.

Many of the items I am bringing are not even available on my website simply because I have been so busy that updating the site has been on the back burner. So come on out to Got Craft and suit yourself up!

Tickets to Got Craft? are $3 in advance online or $5 at the door. For more information about the event, or to purchase tickets, click here.
