FRIDAY: Irish rock quartet U2 kicks off its Joshua Tree Tour 2017 at BC Place, performing the 1987 album in its entirety, with guests Mumford & Sons.

FRIDAY: Canadian spaceship commander Chris Hadfield shares a selection of stories, images, and songs that celebrate Canada's 150th birthday at the Orpheum Theatre.

FRIDAY: the Rogue Folk Club presents John Reischman and the Jaybirds at St. James Hall.

FRIDAY: American rapper and producer Oddisee plays the Biltmore with full band Good Company.

FRIDAY: local musicians and dancers N’nato Camara, Kocasalle Dioubate, Kesseke Yeo, Alhassan, Kofi Gbolonyo, and Esinu Gbolonyo perform at the VanAfrica event at Roundhouse Community Centre.

FRIDAY: Sounds of Solidarity fundraising concert at the Rickshaw features music by Alita Dupray, Peach Pit, BabyHarry/Kings of Soul, Kimmortal, Steeven K. and Da Godz, and MC Kwasi Thomas, with proceeds to help displaced Syrian refugees living in Athens, Greece.

FRIDAY: Canadian blues-roots singer-songwriter Shiloh Lindsey plays LanaLou's, with guests the Crooked and the Scott Paulley Duo.

FRIDAY: Dixon Divas Benefit at the Sanctuary in Burnaby features jazz music by Dee Daniels, the Dan Reynolds Trio, Gabriel Mark Hasselbach, and Michael Creber, with proceeds to Dixon Transition House, which supports women and children fleeing domestic violence.

FRIDAY: Le Centre culturel francophone de Vancouver presents local Celtic-jazz ensemble the Gabriel Dubreuil Quartet at Studio 16.

SATURDAY: English rock singer-songwriter James McCartney plays the WISE Hall, with guests the Cut Losses and Anna Rose.

SATURDAY: Canadian electro-global band Coco Jafro plays Frankie's Jazz.

SATURDAY: the Rogue Folk Club presents Canadian folk guitarist-vocalist Andy Hillhouse coheadlining St. James Hall with Canadian husband-and-wife duo the Eisenhauers.
