The marriage of Cher and musician Gregg Allman was short, turbulent, and tabloid-worthy.

But after Allman's death this weekend, Cher took to Twitter to express her sadness for the man she called Chooch.

      "Words are impossible," she tweeted.

They met in 1975 a year after Cher left Sonny Bono and suddenly married. Nine days after the wedding, Cher filed for divorce, but stuck with him after learning she was pregnant with their child Elijah.

Over the next two years, Cher couldn't handle Allman's drug and alcohol use and after making an album together, they split for good.

"Nobody ever made me feel as happy as Gregory did ... he's wonderful," Cher once told People magazine. "I don’t understand why he can't see it. He's the kindest, most gentle, loving husband and father. But then, he forgets and everything goes to shit."

Listen to Cher's "You've really got a hold on me", which was recorded in 1977.
