The Rio Theatre gets geeky with Dungeons & Dragons comedy and Tolkien burlesque

For the rest of this week, the Rio Theatre's looking distinctly geeky with entertainment that encompasses pop-culture comedy and nerdlesque.

Tomorrow (May 31) you can beat the hump day blues with The Critical Hit Show, an evening of improv comedy inspired by tabletop game Dungeons & Dragons. Local comedians Eric Fell, Ian Boothby, Joanna Gaskell, Barbara Beall, Allen Morrison, and Shaun Stewart will play adventurers on a quest for comic glory and, of course, snacks.

On Friday (June 2) weary workers can celebrate the end of the week with Lord of the Schwings, a night of burlesque inspired by the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. Presented by the Geekenders and Kitty Glitter, the evening will feature silly, sexy routines performed by hobbits, elves, wizards, and magical creatures.

Tickets for both shows are available online. And no, you can't pay with XP or the One Ring.
