Downtown Vancouver Blenz Coffee at Granville and Davie temporarily closed due to fire

If your daily caffeination station is the Blenz Coffee at Granville and Davie streets, you might be surprised to see it boarded and papered up.

But hold off on the caffeine withdrawal symptoms. The good news is that, unlike other eateries in the area that have gone dark, it's not permanently closed. It's also not closed for relocation either.

When we contacted the Canadian franchise located at 700 Davie Street, they informed us that the location was hit by a fire in the early hours on July 24. They said they'd be closed for about a month before they can reopen. It's currently undergoing renovations.

Although they didn't provide any further information, they're busy contending with the damage from the fire. We'll hopefully be able to provide further details when they become available, such as a reopening date. We're awaiting a response from the Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services for details about the fire.

In the meantime, the closest Blenz locations to that one to get your daily jolt include a nearby downtown location (999 Granville Street at Nelson Street), one in Yaletown (338 Helmcken Street), and one in the Davie Village (1203 Davie Street).

Blenz, if you didn't already know, is a Canadian company that opened its first location at Robson and Bute streets in 1992. They now have over 60 locations in B.C., Japan, and the Philippines.

The timing of the temporary closure is unfortunate as the upcoming Celebration of Light and Pride events is a boon to businesses as they bring hordes of people through the area.

Meanwhile, there have been a number of permanent restaurant closures nearby.

Across the street, Stack House Burger Bar closed on March 27 at 1224 Granville Street. One block away, Juno Japanese Sushi Bistro closed at 572 Davie Street on May 27 after eight years in business.
