Samantha Bee might have what Stephen Colbert called a "maple parachute", but she has no intention of using it.

On Thursday night's broadcast of The Late Show, Colbert remarked that the Full Frontal With Samantha Bee host could use her status as a Canadian citizen to escape the political hellscape that is President Donald J. Trump's America. Bee and her husband, fellow former Daily Show correspondent Jason Jones, were born in Canada, and both hold dual Canadian and U.S. citizenship.

"At any moment I could leap into the arms of Justin Trudeau," Bee acknowledged, but noted that she and Jones aren't planning to flee the United States in the near future.

"We're not joking around," Bee said. "We chose this place and we intend to fix it."

In the wake of Trump's election victory last November, Colbert advised Americans not to abandon their country and move to Canada.

"Being an American citizen is like family," he said at the time. "You're in it whether you like it or not."
