On August 10, 13, and 16, Ensemble Theatre Company presents Master Class at the Jericho Arts Centre (1675 Discovery Street).

Presented as part of the local theatre troupe's fifth annual repertory summer festival, Master Class sees top Soviet composers Sergei Prokofiev and Dmitri Shostakovich clash with dictator Joseph Stalin and cultural-policy advisor Andrei Zhdanov, who advocate for the needs of the State over the creativity of the individual.

Set in the period after World War II, the fictionalized encounter of historic figures is a witty and taute exposé of the struggle between all-pervasive state censorship and the creative freedom of artists.

Master Class is directed by Evan Frayne and stars James Gill, Chris Lam, Tariq Leslie, and Chris Robson.

Tickets for Master Class start at $10 and are available online.
