From September 7 to 17, the Canadian premiere of Cry-Baby: The Musical takes over the Firehall Arts Centre (280 East Cordova).

Presented by Awkward Stage Productions as part of the Vancouver Fringe Festival, the play is based on the Universal Pictures cult-classic film written and directed by John Waters.

Set in 1950s Baltimore, Cry-Baby: The Musical sees a group of conservative squares face off against leather-clad, motorcycle-riding juvenile deliquents in a rockabilly musical.

The production is directed by Barbara Tomasic and features the talents of musical director Andy Toth and choreographer Erika Babins, with the book by Thomas Meehan and Mark O'Donnell and music and lyrics by Adam Schlesinger and David Javerbaum.

Tickets for Cry-Baby: The Musical are $17 and are available online.
