With the final season of Game of Thrones still a long way off, fans of the show are speculating over every last tidbit they can get a hold of, Emilia Clarke's dramatic new haircut being no exception.
So let's get started, shall we?
Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen, has naturally dark locks and has had to wear a series of platinum-blonde wigs to emulate the long, often elaborately braided hair the character is known for.
So it was something of a shock when she posted a pic of her new short, pale-blonde 'do on Instagram. If nothing else, it's fantastic to see the actor embracing her inner Mother of Dragons.
But this style switchup could have a deeper significance for Clarke's take-charge character.
Will this change to a hairstyle eerily similar to that of the love-to-hate Cersei Lannister signal a complete turnaround in Daenerys's style of politics? It's definitely a possibility, as she's already imitating the brutal ruler in terms of loving her family a little too much.
It could also be something else altogether, as fans have noted she is already supposed to have shorter hair in the books. On the other hand, it might just be a simple matter of comfort for the actor.
So far the only thing that's for certain is that it's a complete mystery.
And we wouldn't have it any other way.
