“On October 3rd, he asked me to help.”

Fans of the cult teen flick Mean Girls may remember the quote a little differently, but it’s what the movie’s stars are tweeting today (October 3)—a date unofficially dubbed “Mean Girls Day” by fans—in an effort to raise funds for those affected by the Las Vegas massacre.

Actors Amanda Seyfried, Lacey Chabert, Jonathan Bennett, and Daniel Franzese, who played Karen Smith, Gretchen Wieners, Aaron Samuels, and Damian Leigh in the 2004 film, respectively, released a video this morning in which they reunite to encourage Mean Girls fans to donate to victims of Sunday’s (October 1) terror attack on the Las Vegas Strip, which left 58 dead, including four Canadians, and nearly 500 others injured.

The event has since been deemed the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

“After Sunday’s tragic events in Las Vegas, let’s give back,” said Seyfried after acknowledging October 3, a day that has become noteworthy to Mean Girls buffs thanks to an especially quotable moment that sees Bennett’s Aaron inquiring about the date during calculus classand subsequently taking his and desk-mate Cady Heron's relationship to the next level.

      (“It’s October 3rd,” answers Lindsay Lohan’s Heron.)

The cast has set up a GoFundMe page in partnership with the National Compassion Fund, a program operated by the U.S.’s National Center for Victims of Crime that works to support victims and advance victims’ rights. They’re asking people—“the groolest fans out there”—to donate $3 to reach their $300,000 target.

“If every fan just gave $3 in honour of October 3,” said Bennett, “we would hit our goal of $300,000 in no time.”

Fellow Mean Girls alum Lohan, Lizzy Caplan, and Rajiv Surendra have also released a video encouraging fans to donate:

At the time of writing, the crowdfunding campaign has collected nearly $34,000. A general victims’ fund for those affected by the shooting has also raised over $4 million in 24 hours.
