Vancouver's A-Maze-ing Laughter in X-Files Season 11 trailer as Gillian Anderson suggests departure

When original run of The X-Files relocated from Vancouver to Los Angeles from 1998 onward for filming Seasons 6 to 9, it precipitated a shift in some of the show's look and feel due to different geography and climate.

However, the revival series has brought the production back its starting point.

And in the latest series, some local landmarks are getting cameo roles.

In a Season 11 trailer released at the 2017 New York Comic-Con, the A-maze-ing Laughter statues down at English Bay make an appearance. But thanks to the suspenseful music and juxtaposition of images, they take on a much creepier impression than they do in real life. There are also aliens in the mix. (And that's not a reference to Vancouverites.)

The new season will premiere in early 2018.

Back on September 18, David Duchovny (who plays agent Fox Mulder) posted a photo of their shoot down at the statues on social media.

However, it's up in the air as to whether Gillian Anderson, who reprised her role as agent Dana Scully, will stay on with the series after Season 11 is over.

When Screen Rant asked her at the New York Comic-Con if she would continue in the role past the current season, the publication quoted her as stating "No, no, I think this will be it for me."

However, Screen Rant later updated the article to state that a Fox representative clarified that her continuation with or departure from the show has not been confirmed yet as she is still filming Season 11.

Is she calling it quits? Or is she stating things prematurely? As viewers already know, the truth is out there. Somewhere.
