CBC host Sook-Yin Lee eats ashes of dead cats

Ex-Vancouver resident Sook-Yin Lee, former lead singer of Bob's Your Uncle, hasn't lost her capacity to surprise.

Many years ago as a veejay with MuchMusic, Lee once dropped her drawers and mooned the audience.

Today, I was listening to her CBC Radio show, Definitely Not the Opera, which was entirely focused on the theme of death.

Out of nowhere, Lee confessed how mortified she was by the demise of her two cats, Oscar and Hannah.

She keeps their ashes in an urn at home. And, get this, she admitted on the air that at one point, she actually ate some of the ashes. Yum yum.

That way, her beloved felines would remain with her forever.

It didn't quite rank up with her performing intercourse and masturbating on screen in the 2006 film Shortbus, but Lee still kept me interested in listening to DNTO.

The show also featured Lee's compelling interview with Jerry Givens, the former executioner for the U.S. State of Virginia. After flicking the switch on 61 inmates, he's now on the board of a group that opposes the death penalty.

Hey there are priests in India that eat the ashes of human corpses so how unusual is this?

      You mean executioner, don't you?

Executor ... a legal term referring to a person named by a maker of a will, or nominated by the testator, to carry out the directions of the will.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executioner

      Executioner

Not to be confused with Executor.

A judicial executioner is a person who carries out a death sentence

      Anyway, enough pedantry.

Hasn't had that effect on me, I'm afraid to say. I miss the old Brand-X days.

DNTO seems so damned juvenile sometimes.

Having said that, Sook Yin's stories about her sister, or her mother have been fascinating and compelling listening.

      I stopped listening years ago...

      Cheers,

The term for Jerry Givens is executioner, not executor. An executor manages a will/trust/estate.

      Alan Zure and Executor?:

Of course, you are correct, and the spelling of the offending word has been corrected. Thank you both.
Also, so readers don't mistake "Virginia" as a person with enough wealth and/or influence to be able to have her own executioner, we identified the entity as a U.S, state.

How did I write executor in the first place? I wasn't drunk at the time. Maybe it's a sign that I'm going foggy in my old age. Any idiot knows that a person who kills people on death row is an executioner and not an executor.

Is this really that different from the number of people who have had loved one's ashes added to the ink they get tattooed with?
