Chuck Berry collapses on keyboard during gig in Chicago

Chuck Berry, the man who basically created rock 'n' roll guitar—just ask Keith Richards—had a rough night in Chicago yesterday (January 1).

According to a report in the Chicago Sun-Times, the 84-year-old music legend collapsed over a set of keyboards during a show at the Congress Theater and lay still for a couple of minutes before being helped off stage. He returned to the stage after about 20 minutes but could not continue the concert, explaining to the audience—most of which had already left the building—that he had no strength to carry on.

Berry was checked by emergency crews, and Chicago Fire Dept. spokesman Joe Roccasalva said that he was feeling better but had signed a refusal for further medical treatment. The St. Louis-based icon had flown into the Windy City after performing two New Year's Eve shows at B.B. King's Blues Club and Grill in Manhattan.

Update: Berry is at home in St. Louis recovering. According to his agent, Dick Alen, he "feels tired but good."
