Clough Club dark spirits cocktail lounge opens in Gastown

Jeff Donnelly has had a busy couple of weeks. The president of the Donnelly Group has just re-opened the Bimini Public House after four years of renovations following a fire that gutted the place. And on December 1, he opened Clough Club , a lounge that focuses on dark spirits, in Gastown.

Clough Club is located next to the Lamplighter and focuses on bourbon, whisky, Scotch, and tequila. (They do, however, offer one vodka and one gin.) Trevor Kallies put together the drinks list, and Refuel chef Robert Belcham designed the tapas menu, which focuses on Central and South American flavours.

Next door to Clough Club, Donnelly has also opened a retro, shabby-chic barbershop, run by his partner, Martin Rivard, who manages Clough Club and has cut Donnelly’s hair for years.

OH MY GOD, this a is a remarkable occasion. They didn't add the words "PUBLIC HOUSE" on the end of their new establishment's name.

Just checked it out yesterday, but just for drinks. It's seems rather expensive, but it's nice and dark and there aren't big screen TV's all over the place - the latter points luxuries I'm willing to pay for once in a while.

Does anybody else but Jeff Donnelly open bars in this silly city?
Are they gonna have house DJ's and bring in washed up hip hop acts from the80's/90's too?

Blech. The neighbourhood has gone to hell since it was sublet to the Donnelly Group and its drunken asshat customers.

Yes, what is the deal with the Donnelly saturation? They seem to get their joints greenlit left and right while other places fight tooth and nail to open their doors.

This is a monopoly. They need to liberalize the availability of liquor licenses.

So there may be a slim chance that this particular Donnely Group establishment won't be filled with the usual drunken douchebag clientele that seem to populate all their other venues? Yeah, I doubt it too.

Sweet, more Donnely Group clubs...did you squeeze tiny dance floors in so you can charge cover at a bar?

      nicely.

The designer did a wonderful job- hope he (Craig) got paid out well.
A friend working for Donnelly sent them an image from a mixed media (market valued) piece I had in a group show that featured a large photo taken taken in the Lamplighter pre-Donnelly soliciting sales and design interest for the pub just after they took it over. They apparently liked it allot but "for that much money they could buy a flat screen" so they passed.
      Culture, parasites and date rape.

@nicely... you took a pre-renovation photo and tried to sell it to them for a few hundred? Is this your line of work?

Let me know how it's going... I have no artistic talent, but I can take photos with my trusty digital camera. Maybe I can be an artist too!
