Options for Sexual Health, Canada's largest non-profit provider of sexual health services, has named Georgia Straight columnist Dan Savage as the organization's 2013 Sexual Health Champion.

The Seattle-based newly-wed author, activist, and creator of the It Gets Better project will also be the keynote speaker at Opt’s inaugural Sexual and Reproductive Health Day Breakfast on February 12, 2013, at the Marriott Pinnacle Downtown Vancouver hotel (1128 West Hastings Street).

In a media release issued today (December 12), Savage said, “I'm honoured to be called a Sexual Health Champion. Getting people talking honestly about sex is the first step to getting better sex and staying healthy while you’re at it.”

Jennifer Breakspear, executive director for the B.C.-based Opt, said in the release, “We put the question of the award out to our Opt community of staff and volunteers and Dan was one of their first suggestions. He has done so much for bringing questions of sex and sexual health out of the closet and into everyday conversations.”

Tickets for the breakfast are available online for $50 until January 15, and $60 after that.
